The national organization of AAUW admits membership in these categories:
Individual Member: A person who holds an associate degree or equivalent (e.g., R.N.), bachelor’s degree, or higher degree from an institute accredited and recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. When AAUW was founded in 1881, it was for women only. Men were permitted admission as members sometime in the 1990s.
Life Member: An individual member paying an equivalent of 20 years annual dues is exempt from annual AAUW national dues for the balance of their membership.
Fifty-Year Honorary: An individual member who has paid dues for 50 years becomes a life member and is exempt from annual dues.
College/University Members: Students who attend an institution that pays annual dues to the AAUW national organization are admitted without paying national dues as individuals and receive the same member benefits of an individual member.
Other Organizational Members: The national organization will vet anyone interested in membership based on their resume and work history, rather than a higher degree. Dues and benefits are the same as an individual member.
Our Walla Walla branch developed another category of membership, as voted by the Branch Board in 2022
Friends of AAUW: An individual who does not fit into the educational categories above but supports our mission and value promise. Dues are the same as an individual member but these members do not have voting rights at the AAUW national level.
Membership Dues Effective April 1, 2026
$96 — Annual dues for national, state, and local membership fees
$58 — New member joining at AAUW public event
$1520 — Lifetime member dues + $20 annual renewal each year for state and local dues
$0 —Student associate dues (If college is an AAUW affiliate; $18.81 if college is not AAUW affiliate.)
Dues are collected by the AAUW national organization based on the date your membership is recorded. If you joined AAUW in 2022 or later, your renewal dues are payable according to the month you joined. Members who joined prior to 2022 pay their dues by June 30 each year.
