Community Events

We host public events throughout the year as a way of earning money to support our giving campaigns for local scholars, future leaders, and our neighbors in the Walla Walla Valley. Our free events for local youth are made possible thanks to generous contributions from volunteers and supporters.

Learn more about our events below. In addition to your attendance at our events, we gratefully welcome your tax-deductible financial donation in support of our scholarship fund for local students!

Annual Tech Trek

Tech Trek is a premier camp offering STEM education to 7th grade girls. Each year, girls are nominated by their classroom teachers and go through an application and selection process.

The goal of the Tech Trek program is to provide an environment in which girls can learn, be creative, and begin to see the opportunities that are open to them in the STEM educational and professional arenas.

The week-long camp includes a Professional Women’s night in which students meet women working in STEM careers. Camp also provides a field-trip experience with STEM learning, an inspiring movie night, and many chances to team build with their fellow campers and high school student counselors.

All expenses (airfare and camp costs) for this July summer camp on the Pacific Lutheran Campus in Tacoma, WA, will be paid for by AAUW.

Biennial Great Explorations

Walla Walla Great Explorations is a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) event that takes place every other year on the Whitman College campus in Walla Walla.

Participants attend a keynote address followed by hands-on workshops. The event is open to girls and boys — and the workshop presenters, keynote speaker, and volunteers are all women.

Our goal is to encourage greater student participation in science and math education in their middle and high school years. Ideally, this will open doors to opportunities they might otherwise be unaware of or lacking the enthusiasm and confidence to pursue.
